Stop Chasing the Google Algorithm!

I’m sure you have probably heard this:

“Well, you know, that Panda update hit and dropped the site rankings. Google has a new algorithm that has changed the way we do things.”

While this might apply for some sites, for the most part, this logic doesn’t make much sense.

There is a saying that goes:
“Good SEOs get hit by ranking algorithms. Great SEOs watch their traffic increase.”

Essentially, the goal of every Google update is to deliver better search results in the form of useful websites.

Start Making Your Site More Useful

Build your site to cater to your users first (and always!) Remember, the search engines aren’t going to buy ANYTHING from you!

If you only chase the algorithm, you’ll always be reacting to changes after they happen. Take Google’s advice when they say that you should build your website as if the search engines didn’t exist.

Think about that for a moment. Imagine no Google or Bing. No “free” traffic from some magical source called the search engines.

How would you go about building traffic to your site? If you said something along the lines of articles, press releases, directories and niche sites related to yours, then why aren’t you doing that now?

It’s easy to get addicted to the traffic that Google sends. I’m guilty of that. But I’ve also seen first hand that those who arrive from niche and category specific verticals aligned with the site always convert better.

We have to pay attention to the Google Algorithm, but you shouldn’t put the success or failure of your online business all on Google.
