What are the most powerful links to get?

I always get this question from my programming/designer friends, so I figured instead of emailing them each time, I can send this post instead…

Links can be broken down in to two categories:

Type and extension

  • directory link
  • profile link
  • blog post/comment link
  • article link
  • press release link
  • text link on site

Top tier

  • .gov
  • .mil
  • .edu

Then second tier:

  • .com
  • .org
  • .net
  • all country extensions (.nl, .cn, .ca, etc)

Everything else is garbage, especially:

  • .info
  • .biz
  • .mobi

This doesn’t mean that there aren’t quality sites with these extensions, but as a whole, they are typically used by spammers and their MFA sites that clutter up the search results.

Hope this helps!
